NEW ADMIN, NEW BEGINNING!

Sat Apr 15, 2006, 2:33 AM
It has been unfortunate that the BambooAwards has been very very quiet for a very long time. Apparently, its original admin and founders decided to abandon this endeavor and has left it to just fade away.

However, a few people have been wanting to continue with this kind of project, where poets and writers get to be recognized for their works here in dA without any due compensation whatsoever.

The Bamboo Awards was originally started to give underecognized poets and writers their due acknowledgment here in dA. It was started to inspire other poets and writers to honing their craft and skill.

Therefore, after a very long long silence...the Bamboo Awards once again opens it doors to another season of competition under a new admin.

It has been decided that the ~treehousesociety, a community started by ~bayen aimed to gather various artists in dA, will manage and oversee the receiving of nominations and counting of votes.

For the NEW Bamboo Awards RULES
1. Any poem or prose submitted in dA are eligible to be nominated.
2. Three awards are given: Outstanding Poem, Outstanding Prose and Outstanding Writer
3. Any person in dA can nominate a poem, a prose or a writer by sending a NOTE to ~treehousesociety (let me repeat that, a NOTE to ~treehousesociety and not here at ~thebambooawards) with SUBJECT: BAMBOOAWARDS NOMINATION
4. Deadlines will be set and only those nominations submitted before the deadlines will be eligible for the competition.
5. Winners will have their works posted both at ~treehousesociety and ~thebambooawards
6. Good luck!

For our first Season of Competition this 2006, we invite you to send your nominations now! Deadline is on JUNE 30, 2006!

As the first winner of the Horror/Macabre prize... it's sad to see this little contest so dead. :(

hey, thanks for nominating my piece for the competition. I'm really surprised, since i didn't even know if anybody on DA ever bothered to read all of it. So that already proves to me that this must be a cool award -- I'll watch you for now and hope that I can contribute to this project in some way.

"Actually, contrary to what has been said of us not caring to "change for the better" simply because we haven't replied to the comments posted here is not entirely accurate. Just because we don't reply simply doesn't mean we don't consider the critiques. While others may be quick to defend themselves or even take the offensive, we rather just read whatever has been said and take them as it is.

Indeed, we have to admit that we are poorly inexperienced when it comes to critiquing poems in the form of giving out "awards", compared to the already established communities here in the DA. Indeed, we are even having some troubles within ourselves. However, for those of you who are not quite aware of how things started with us, it is better that you probably read our first journal entries.

As to our poor collection of featured poems and pieces, we respect your opinion as to the quality of our poems chosen. Unfortunately, we do not have the same excellent skill in appreciation of true art and poetry like most experts here. However, while it may appear as being content with low standards, we are nonetheless proud of our nominated works and we hope that by recognizing these poets help them hone their skills and inspire them to continue writing poems. Our list of nominees are that: nominated poems. We accept them and out of the nominated poems we choose what we think are best and feature them. If the best that we have received are poor, then so be it. Let that be to the reader's subjective reception.

As to the eligibility of voting, one has to know the story of that portion. For the info of others, we never initially planned of letting others decide for us who they think should win our poetry contest. When we started this, we didn't even expect DA members to include us in their watch list. We were not very optimistic about this project. But when we started gaining some level of attention and started gaining new friends as well, we decided that, as our way of saying thank you to those who have kept us in their watchlist, we let them participate in the decision making process. Thus, started the voting eligibility which is exclusive to those who keep watch. Unlike other groups like coffeehouse for example, we are not really a "community" where DA members get to interact the way other clubs do. We don't offer memberships like other clubs. But since some DA members still want to keep us in their watchlist, we sort of like consider them as "members" of the "club" thus as members, they get to vote as their way of participating. And this is a tradition we shall continue to do.

Other comments posted here may already be trivial and we feel we need not really go gaga over them as to correction on grammar, Hongkong Time, and whatnot. We do take note them though and hope that maybe our own little community can thrive longer than what we had initially hoped for.

We do apologize for the late reply sometimes. The initiators of this project come from poor countries that we need to ride a water bufallo to transport us to the city and go to an internet cafe and spend what is equivalent to only 0.005 US dollars to read the poems nominated and even write our own. But we are die-hard fans of poetry and DEVIANTART and great patrons of BLOOMING poets who like us are also learning the science and art of poetry writing."

I think you all are doing a fabulous job. I think people need to recgonize that no matter who is doing selecting winners in poetry contests, experts or not, the opinion is always in the eye of the beholder. If you have a problem with the site, dont be involved. It seems that simple to me.

To thebambooawards, i would still like to be eligible for the contests, but if there is any additional way that i can help, please let me know, thanks.

we love to receive help from you. You can check out our past journal on how you can help. But perhaps the best help we can get is to have one of your best works nominated. Keep on writing. We are proud to have you in our list of winners.
